As a Gay man who has allways wanted children but never had anyof his own, and has adopted a young gay adult and has also been adopted by an older gay man. I co-opted other peoles relatives instead of producing my own, does that count?

I think it counts as long as you're not actively seeking to reproduce. For instance, it wouldn't count if you were to donate to a sperm bank or if, as a gay man who wanted children, you located a surrogate mother or made a deal with a lesbian couple.

Being gay wouldn't automatically include you any more than being heterosexual would automatically exclude you; the deciding factor is the decision whether or not to reproduce (or at least have a direct role in the creation of more humans).

The argument would be different, perhaps, for one who believes that voluntary human extinction extends to an active role in discouraging others to reproduce.

That pretty much sums it up. Plenty of gay breeders out there pushing baby strollers. Plenty of straight people who choose not to reproduce.

Congratulations on taking responsibility to raise somebody who is already in the world and in need of parenting. A little love goes a long way towards keeping someone from turning out to be a sociopath.
